Kim's camera will again provide the visuals for today's posting.

I e-mailed Professor Sorogas early this morning to ask whether he could tell me the class schedule yet. He called a little later to tell me that it was still not final. One of the classrooms we use ("we" meaning the U of Athens Dept. of Communication and Media Studies) at the law school is not going to be ready for another couple of weeks.

He also told me that a university professor had been attacked while delivering a lecture. It seems he had been critical of rioters so a gang of young people entered the lecture hall and attacked him. The department was having a meeting today and this was among items to discuss. Any of you who know my mother PLEASE do not say anything to her about this. Today's news account was mostly about a car bomb in Athens with the professor's attack the last paragraph of the story. Please don't be overly concerned about us. Yes, there are still some angry factions but this is not a city in anarchy. It's still safer to be here than to own a home on a runway approach in a snowy city.

Kim and I were going to head out this afternoon but the wind was so strong we decided to just do some grocery shopping at the local store and go back home. Kim was able to spend some time on the phone this afternoon with a couple of her sisters. Thank goodness for international phone cards!

In the Greek Orthodox calendar, today is Barbeque Thursday. People eat grilled food (mostly pork) today. We didn't want to go to a restuarant so we got pork steaks at the grocery store.

It's also the unofficial end of Carnival season. It's the days preceding lent. In Roman Catholic tradition, most people are familiar with Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, the day preceding lent. Greeks celebrate for weeks, staring in January. Lots of halloween-type costumes all around.

This is a solar-powered water heater. You see them on the roof of just about every apartment building.

It's so nice to see these beautiful sunny pictures! We are having <8just) another cold week here in Slovenia, so I feel even more envious not to be in Greece right now like you are ;))) I hope you will be safe in the classroom!
Hugs to both of you.
