The Sferisterio (the outdoor opera theatre, which was first constructed in the 19th century as an athletic venue for a game that was a kind of cross between tennis and handball)
but by far, the most popular stop of the day was to climb to the top of the city's clock tower to get a view of the town, and all the way to the Adriatic. The tower is accessible only by appointment. Filiberto had made the arrangements but got a call from them earlier in the day saying they would cancel because of the weather conditions. We had had some "iffy" weather earlier, but by the time we stopped at the tower at 5 p.m. it was no problem. Up we went.
Besides my own fear of being up there, I was probably just as fearful of the way some of the students were not afraid, almost leaning over the rail. I tried not to watch them.
